A WEST DEVON primary school is staging a double celebration after two separate inspection reports judged it good with outstanding features.
Ofsted inspectors said Lamerton Church of England Primary was a good school with a caring, family atmosphere where children became confident and effective learners.
Pupils started at Lamerton with skills at a level expected for their age. But, because of the good teaching and stimulating curriculum, they left with above average attainment.
A second report, by the Diocese of Exeter, also judged every aspect of Lamerton's work to be good or better.
Diocesan inspector Jackie Rudman said: 'This is a good Church of England school in which children are valued as individuals.
'The head, staff, governors and local church community share a common purpose to offer all children the very best education within a caring, Christian environment.'
Ofsted spent two days at Lamerton last month and the inspector's report has just been published.
Lead inspector Stephen Lake concludes: 'Pupils' progress is consistently good and occasionally outstanding, especially in Years 5 and 6.
'Teachers work hard to make lessons stimulating and motivating. The good curriculum is enriched by a good range of activities that ensure all pupils are motivated to learn.
'Visits and visitors make a strong contribution that enhances pupils' learning.
'Their extremely high attendance demonstrates just how much they enjoy school.'
Mr Lake said pupils were very attentive in lessons and had a respect for themselves and others. The outstanding care, guidance and support they received demonstrated the great concern staff had for the pupils in their care.
Mr Lake said headteacher Ann Mitchell had high expectations and a commitment to continual improvement, with excellent leadership and management skills.
She was well supported by very effective governors.
Mr Lake said to obtain even better results, the school should improve pupils' writing skills and their understanding of other cultures.
The outdoor area of the Early Years Foundation Stage should also be improved and the children should have more opportunities to develop their speaking and writing skills.
These areas have already been identified for improvement.
Headteacher Ann Mitchell said: 'These good reports and the success of the school are a tribute to the hard work and dedication of the staff, pupils and governors and the support of our families.'
