A NEW six-month scheme aimed at cutting down waste on prescription medicines has been launched in West Devon, with the help of pharmacists and doctors in the area.
It is hoped the scheme, introduced by South Hams and West Devon Primary Care Trust, will save the NHS money which can then be used elsewhere, such as employment of staff.
Tina Campbell, pharmacist and advisor to the trust, said: ?Local pharmacists will be working with doctors to see how repeat medication is prescribed and dispensed to patients.
?This type of scheme has already been tried successfully in other parts of the country, so the trust is confident the scheme will make much needed savings.?
It is hoped wastage can be reduced by identifying prescriptions which have been ordered twice, ordered by mistake or simply ordered too often.
