THE showpiece event in the town calendar takes place today (Thursday) as Okehampton Show draws the visitors to the Stoney Park site.
This year marks the 99th running of the show and as ever there will be a wide variety of spectacles to attract visitors? attention.
Among the highlights will be a chance to watch the amazing skills of the SW Axe Men, a parade by the Radford Heavy Horse Display Team, a sheep-shearing display and terrier and ferret racing.
Musical entertainment will be blasting out from a special marquee at the showfield, compere duties will be taken up by the Widdecombe Wag Tony Beard, while the Ploughboy Jazz Band and Okehampton Excelsior Silver Band will also be performing.
For the youngsters there is the chance to test their skills as mini digger operators, have a go at riding a quad bike, learn to climb and many other fun activities.
The popular Devon Food Hall marquee has been increased in size again this year, to cater for the wide range of local producers.
A free shuttle bus service between the centre of Okehampton and the showground will be running from 10am.
