A MONEYSAVING roadshow was due to roll into Hatherleigh today (Thursday) to mark the Energy Saving Trust?s Energy Saving Week. The campaign aims to urge the public to make a pledge in the fight against climate change ? domestic households are responsible for almost a third of the UK?s carbondioxide emissions, so home energy saving can make a big difference, says the trust. To encourage people to start making an effort, free energy-saving lightbulbs will be given to anyone signing one of the special pledge cards available at the roadshow in Hatherleigh Town Hall. Grace Daniels, project manager for Warm Up West Devon, said: ?If everyone in the UK fitted one low energy lightbulb, we would save enough energy to shut down a power station.? At the roadshow, advisers from the Devon Energy Efficiency Advice Centre will be on hand to offer advice about saving energy and about renewable energy installations suitable for individual properties. Staff from Warm Up West Devon will be at the roadshow to inform residents how they can cut back on their heating bills. The project?s grant scheme, which is available to all West Devon property owners regardless of income, can help with loft insulation and cavity wall insulation. Discounts are more likely to be available for the elderly and those on low incomes ? in some cases, energy saving measures can even be free, depending on the applicant?s circumstances. In addition to energy saving advice, West Devon Care and Repair will be at the roadshow to promote the Devon Handyperson Service, which carries out small repairs and minor jobs around the house for disabled people and those over 60. Devon Fire and Rescue teams will also be on hand to offer free home safety checks. The Hatherleigh energy saving roadshow follows a similar event held in Chagford Village Hall on Tuesday.
