WEST Devon Borough Council's new Okehampton customer services centre is building on its success by opening on Saturday mornings for a trial period. The centre, which is in St James Street at the top of the Arcade, will open from 10am to 1pm on Saturday December 9 and Saturday December16 . Trained advisers will be on hand to help with queries about all council services from planning to pest control and from benefits to bus passes. West Devon mayor and Okehampton Councillor Ken Williams said: 'The new St James Centre has really improved the availability of council services for the people of Okehampton and surrounding villages. But we feel that we can do even better, and by opening Saturdays we are hoping more people are able to access services and information.' The centre opened in June and since then there has been a dramatic increase in the number of people who visit the council in Okehampton. The council's Oaklands Drive offices are now closed to the public. As well as providing all borough council services the centre hosts Okehampton's registration service on Monday and Friday afternoons. It is also used by the Citizens' Advice Bureau which provides an evening advice surgery, on an appointment basis, on the second Thursday of each month.
