THE Easter weekend will mark an exciting new event in Hatherleigh this year, with the town's first Saturday market.

The first Ruby Country Market will take place on April 7 at the current market site, looking to recreate a bustling, traditional market in the heart of the community. There will be a range of stalls selling a wide variety of goods and wares.

Organisers are on the lookout for traders and producers who may be interested in getting a pitch at the market.

The wide variety of goods and stalls is hoped to attract people of all ages to the market. To entertain shoppers, Hatherleigh-based musician Josie Lloyd, who often leads musical evenings at the pubs in the town, is co-ordinating an all day programme of live music. Other attractions include a general auction and 'attractions of yesteryear' stall.

The Easter market will be the first of four Saturday markets held throughout 2012, with the others planned for June 2, August 11 and December 1. The market will be open from 10am to 4pm, and will support the Devon Air Ambulance Trust, who will be at the April market with collection tins and information about their work.
