Okehampton Argyle 2
Buckland Athletic 1
ARGYLE did not get off to a good start in their attempt to consolidate their hard earned mid-table position, conceding a goal after just five minutes.
It was well taken by Buckland?s Billy Holmes, chesting the ball down while in full flight, then smashing a shot past Argyle?s keeper Sean Sandercock from 12 yards.
This setback seemed to wake Okehampton up. Shots from Adam Mortimer and Mike Vernon both went close, but did not really test the Buckland keeper.
Continued pressure from Okehampton won them a corner in the 15th minute, and to everyone?s surprise, Nick Agnew?s corner kick curved over the keeper?s outstretched hands and into the top corner of the net.
Agnew, who was deputising for the injured Kevin Gill, almost repeated the dose ten minutes later, but this time the keeper managed to tip the ball over the bar.
Five minutes before half-time Argyle broke the deadlock. Paul Yip blocked a defender?s clearance, then raced clear to draw the keeper off his line, before shooting past him to the bottom right hand corner.
Buckland had chances to draw level, but good defending, plus a great one-handed save from Sandercock seconds before the half-time whistle, saw Argyle keep their nose in front.
The second half was a rather boring affair with neither side playing attractive football.
Argyle again created the better chances, but were unable to increase their lead, and in the end were pleased to settle for a 2-1 win.
