THE annual meeting of Gunnislake Cricket Club, was held at the Tavistock Arms in Gunnislake.
The chairman, Kevin Veal, reflected on what had been a difficult season due to bad weather and a struggle to field a full team every week. This had applied to both the Cornwall Saturday League and the Tamar Tuesday evening league.
However, Mr Veal said, there was still a very positive and enthusiastic atmosphere within the club and this was reflected in the attendance at the meeting.
Members gave a special vote of thanks to Sam Boundy, who in his first year as Evening League vice-captain, had to assume the role of captain half way through the season and did extremely well, both on the field and in trying to get a full team out each week.
The second phase on the outfield drainage had already begun and is scheduled for completion in early spring. Thanks were expressed to Calstock Parish Council, Hanson Aggregates and to Central Motors for their sponsorship of the work.
For the 2010 season the club will once again be relying upon a mixture of youth and experience, as indicated by the newly elected captain and vice captain. The Saturday team, which will again compete in division five E of the Cornwall League, will be lead by Sam Boundy. He will be assisted by veteran Mike Hugo, as vice-captain. The election of Evening league captain and vice-captain was deferred until the new year.
The club is always interested in new players of all ages and ability. Further details from the secretary, Mike Hugo on 01822 833927 or [email protected]">[email protected] or Sam Boundy on 01579 350619, or from the club website, gunnislakecc.play-cricket.com
