TAVISTOCK Salvation Army Corps is moving its Sunday services as from February 15.
Since the Salvation Army Hall on Kilworthy Hill closed over five years ago, the corps has been worshipping at the hall at the Methodist Church. Their last meeting there will be this Sunday at 6.30pm, led by the Plymouth Congress Hall Songsters.
Major Joyce Holmes said they had really appreciated the kindness and fellowship at the Methodist Church, but they held a coffee morning on the third Thursday of the month in Tavistock United Reformed Church and felt the time was right that all their activities took place under one roof.
?We believe the move is in God?s plan and purpose for the Salvation Army in Tavistock. It is vital in this day and age that we, as Christians, move and work together so that we can be used by God so that men and women, boys and girls shall come to know Jesus,? she said.
The Rev Roger Cornish of the URC said he was delighted to see the Russell Street Church used for worship on Sunday evenings again ? the URC has morning services only, at 10.30am ? and hoped the two congregations would come to work together more closely.
l The URC in Russell Street last Saturday hosted a concert by the Salvation Army South Western Youth Band, with over 40 young people from large and small corps in the Division making music together. The instrumental and vocal programme was excellent, with each item being well-received.
