WARD and Chowen, auctioneers at Tavistock Livestock Centre, report a similar trade at the second season?s sale of suckled calves to their first season?s sale held a fortnight ago.

A total of 326 cattle was offered with steers again steady and heifers in strong demand but all meeting 100% clearance.

There were 483 sheep also offered which met another strong trade, again meeting 100% clearance.

Top price of the day was £585 for a three-year-old Aberdeen Angus cow with her Devon x steer calf at foot from K J Watson, Postbridge. Suckled calf top price went to E M Dodd, Peter Tavy, for his bunch of four 9mo South Devon steers, while steers overall sold to £540 for a 15mo South Devon for Messrs G Mudge and Co, Tavistock.

Heifers topped at £338 for a bunch of four 11mo Charolais x South Devon for B J, L and D J Landick, Sampford Spiney, with suckled calf heifers selling to £262 for a 5mo Charolais from Westcott Farms, Brentor.

In the sheep pens prices topped at £47.50 for a pen of wether lambs from D G Halsall, Buckland Monachorum.

Other store lambs topped at £47 for a pen from S C Bellamy, Tavistock; Ewes sold to £33.20 for a pen of FM Exmoor x from Roskilly Farms, Tavistock.
