Duchy Knockout Cup

Gunnislake 1

St Stephen 3

THIS all premier division clash saw Gunnislake exit the cup at the first stage.

Gunnislake only had a squad of 12 for this fixture. Manager Geoff Turner-Moore, keeper Andy Woodward and defenders Owen Locker and Simon Wakeham were all unavailable.

Mark Southcott took on the goal-keeping responsibilities and had a good match, making three impressive stops.

The home side were further hindered when after only ten minutes the striker Nathan May had to be replaced with Matt Avery because of injury.

The first half was an even encounter with each team producing some good moves. At the interval the visitors were one goal to the good when they ended a good move with a well taken goal.

St Stephen doubled their lead on the hour mark. Soon after Gunnislake were reduced to ten men as Stuart Wakenshaw limped off.

The visitors took full advantage of the extra man and dominated the remainder, adding a third goal with 15 minutes to go.

Late on Ken Ord headed a Mark Warwick centre against the crossbar before, with the last kick of the game, the home side scored a consolation goal.

Debutant Mike Vanstone, who had had an excellent game, hit a 25-yard free kick which rebounded off the post enabling Steve Gaggini to score.

Duchy Premier

Gunnislake 0

Biscovey 4

FOR the first time this season Gunnislake suffered back-to-back defeats.

A second minute goal saw the visitors rewarded for their good opening to the match. And, although on 20 minutes Stuart Wakenshaw had a well struck shot turned on to the crossbar by the Biscovey keeper, it was the visitors who always looked the more threatening. On 30 minutes Biscovey doubled their advantage with an excellently constructed goal.

Two further goals in the second half could easily have been three but for a fine penalty save by Andy Woodward.

Gunnislake have a double header this weekend. St Minver visit for a 2.30 kick-off on Saturday for a league fixture.

And on Sunday there is a derby game as premier division leaders St Dominick visit Gunnislake for a Bedford cup fixture that kicks off at 2pm.
