A Record crowd turned out at the Tiverton Point to Point on Sunday where Saint Romble proved he has become something of a standing dish in the mixed open, winning the race for the third year in a row. This year the ten year old was ridden by his owner Sarah Hobbs' daughter Katherine. Always travelling well, he shrugged off his 12st 7lbs burden to win from Chita's Flight who had a stone less on her back. 'He's an absolute legend,' said Mrs Hobbs. Trainer Kevin Bishop's gallops near Bridport were just the trick for Elle Roseador who won the Exeter Racecourse Intermediate on her chasing bow and gave her owner/trainer Karla Kelway her first ever winner in the process. Bought last summer, the mare had decent enough form under rules, including a bumper win in 2005, and took up the lead approaching the final fence under Tigger Barnes to win by four lengths. Charlie Wallis, 20, threw the works at his father Ben's Selassie in the PPORA race to hold off the challenge of Mister Putt and record the eighth win of his career. Sixteen went to post but just five finished in a race full of incident with 8-1 chance Selassie sticking to his task determinedly under Wallis who works for David Pipe. Another young rider seen to good effect was Alice Mills, 20, who made virtually all to win the second division of the maiden on Tricky Lyps overhauling favourite The Walnut Tree in the process. Trainer Emma Oliver handed all the plaudits to Alice and to the syndicate of owners. 'They've been fantastic and very patient with this horse. We bought her out of a field near Okehampton last summer just backed and she goes really well for Alice who gave her a cracking ride,' she said. Fastest maiden winner was Barney Blue who took the first division but the win had a sting in its tail for rider Ryan Bliss who was given a £75 fine. However, for the Nyland Partnership it was a special occasion. John Dufosee's wife Teresa said: "The syndicate has been loyal for many years and this was its first ever winner. It was totally unexpected, although Ryan was confident. We had this horse to break as a youngster for Bill Tincknell and he was wonderful so we eventually bought him.' Lucky This Thyne, in the hands of Nick Oliver, got up on the line to score by a head from Running Spring in the third maiden to the delight of his owner/trainer Lucy Goodinson who bought him as an unbacked four year old from Fairyhouse. Ask Again didn't give Sarah West the easiest of rides in the first restricted but he showed plenty of resolution on the run in to cause an upset for favourite backers who had backed second placed Minella Lodge to odds on. Sarah owns the horse in partnership with her father Chris and brother Tim and uses champion trainer Paul Nicholls' gallops for whom she has recently been appointed personal assistant. Lady Myfanwy, a £500 purchase from Leominster market, rallied well under Isobel Thompsett to hold off Lutteur Bleu's challenge and win by a length and a half in the second restricted. Trained by Myfanwy Miles in South Wales, the mare had been seen to good effect at Ideford Arch where she won a maiden. Her owner Paul Miles, a farrier, said: 'She's a very gutsy mare and Isobel rode a very good race. But it's all down to the way she's shod!'
