Okehampton I 1
St Austell 1
OKEHAMPTON first hockey team again put themselves under pressure of conceding an early goal.
Okehampton gradually got into their stride, and began to put together some good moves. They had several chances to score both from open play and set pieces but these went begging.
Okehampton stepped up the pace again for the second half and, as they used the full width of the pitch, began to create holes in the St Austell defences.
As they moved the ball around at pace, the ball went out wide to Simon Garland. He crossed accurately into the circle, and Steve Sage got a faint touch on it to equalise.
Okehampton continued to dominate and with Tom Bentley in midfield the defence was rarely troubled.
However, keeper Andrew Harvey had to stay awake as St Austell had two dangerous breaks near the end, one of which resulted in a goal-line clearance.
This week Okehampton travel to play Plymouth University A.
Camborne 1
Okehampton Seconds 1
OKEHAMPTON's third hockey match in Cornwall in seven days was a dour struggle with little enjoyment for anyone concerned. Another slow bumpy shale pitch and inconsistent umpiring prevented either team from playing anything resembling flowing hockey.
Camborne scored in the first half then played five men at the back in order to preserve their advantage.
With five minutes remaining Keith Webber pushed the ball into the right hand side of the D. Martin Vizor took advantage of the ensuing indecision between goalkeeper and defender and crossed the ball into the open goalmouth for Mark Parsons to score his seventh goal of the season.
Okehampton were glad of the point that keeps them ahead of bottom-placed Camborne and will be glad to be playing their next match on some good old Devon astroturf rather than the dreaded Cornish shale!
