WORK starts on a series of junction improvements on the A386 between Roborough and Yelverton on Monday. They will improve safety and help calm traffic speed along the A386. The work will cost £79,000. The county council has liaised with Dartmoor National Park Authority, Devon and Cornwall Police, Buckland Monachorum Parish Council, various cycling groups and other interested parties on the design of the scheme. Three junctions at Common Lane, Clearbrook, and Crapstone will be improved. At each, minor widening of the carriageway will allow the construction of traffic islands to protect traffic turning right. This, together with alterations to the road markings, including extended ?no overtaking? markings, will provide a more consistent layout at junctions along this stretch of road. The works will be carried out by South West Highways Roads and should take about eight weeks. But some phases are weather-dependent and completion could be delayed by inclement conditions. Two-way traffic will be maintained on the A386 during peak hours. One-way traffic with temporary traffic lights and a speed control vehicle will operate at other times. A temporary 40mph speed limit will be in force for the duration of the works. Turning movements out of the junctions may be restricted at times. The next phase of improvement work, to be carried out when funds are available, will be the Moorland Links Hotel junction.
