IMPROVEMENTS to roads and pavements should make life safer for pedestrians in the area around Tavistock Hospital.
'Slow' signs have been painted on the road on each direction heading towards the hospital, as a result of consultation between Devon County Council member for Tavistock Debo Sellis, the highways department, the hospital league of friends and the matron. Disabled residents were also consulted.
Cllr Sellis said the work had been carried out using funds from her locality budget.
She added: 'New more visible road signs have also been added to indicate the hospital and frail pedestrians, and hedges have been cut back to improve visibility.
'With the dropped curbs and better signage, it is hoped that pedestrians and disabled residents will benefit.'
