A CONVENTION on how to make communities in Devon and Cornwall safer places to live is being held in Okehampton on November 15.
This is the first event of its kind in the region and speakers will include representatives from the Home Office, Government Office South West, Devon and Cornwall Police, National Neighbourhood Watch Association and Dartmoor National Park.
Funding has been secured for the convention from the Tarka Country Millennium Awards and the event has been organised by chairman of the Community Watch Association in the two counties Colin Harris from Lewdown.
Mr Harris said seats had been booked for half of the theatre already and anyone wishing to attend should contact him on 01566 783336 or e-mail the convention booking office at: [email protected]">[email protected]
The convention, which is free to the public, will begin at 11am and is being chaired by Spotlight presenter Justin Leigh. Tea and coffee and a buffet lunch will be available.
'Although Devon and Cornwall are two of the safest counties in which to live and work, we can all find more ways of making them even safer,' said Mr Harris.
'People still have concerns about crime and the fear of crime and how their children are going to get to and from school safely. This convention is about the getting the message across about how crime is going to be tackled in 2004.'
During the afternoon there will be a presentation of this year's Devon and Cornwall Community Watch Awards.
