ROADWORKS in Chagford will continue to cause disruption this week. Essential gas works, currently taking place on the junction of Lower Street and Grammars Lane, have seen road closures and diversions affect Chagford since the start of the New Year. As a result of these works, the next visit of the Chagford Rural Skip service, a temporary recycling service provided by Devon County Council, has been cancelled. The service, due to be at the Health Centre car park on Saturday February 2 and Sunday February 3, cannot go ahead because the large HGVs that are needed for the service are unable to access the centre of the town. The service will be operating as normal on the next scheduled service weekend of Saturday April 5 and Sunday April 6. The county council would like to apologise for any inconvenience that this cancellation may cause and would remind people that a permanent recycling centre is available in Okehampton on the Exeter Road Industrial Estate. The roadworks, being carried out by Wales and West Utilities, are part of a £100,000 project to replace old metal gas pipes with highly durable, non- corroding plastic pipes. They are expected to last for 12 weeks.
