LEWDOWN played against Launceston at Brentor on June 3. Launceston won the toss and elected to bat. Opening bat Baker rode his luck to finish on 83 no ably supported by young Martin Kneebone with 36. Jake Murphy and Brenden Worth with 2 wickets each were the pick of the Lewdown bowlers. On a blistering hot day, Lewdown openers Ant Weekes 56, and Brenden Worth 54 no added 164 for the first wicket, before Murphy finished the job with 37 no Lewdown 18 points beat Launceston 5 points by 9 wickets. Entertaining Ordulph Taverners at Lewdown, Worth won the toss and elected to bat on a fine batting track. After an early wicket, Worth 101, and Everard 72no added 170 for the second wicket. Lewdown scored 208 for the loss of 3 wickets in their 40 overs. In response, fine bowling from Andy Vernon with 5 wickets for 24 runs, never allowed Ordulph to get going, eventually being bowled out for 76. Lewdown 20 points beat Ordulph Taverners 3 points by 132 runs. On another fine day, Lewdown won the toss and elected to bat at Calstock. Another solid opening partnership from Weeks 56, and Worth 40, with 38 no from Batstone and 23 from Martin allowed Lewdown to post 206. In response, Calstock started poorly with 15 year old James Hawken bowling with good pace and aggression, taking two early wickets and constantly troubling the Calstock players. For a change, the Lewdown support bowlers were unable to restrain the Calstock batsmen with McLean, Davies, Rundle and Chalk all contributing to a fine win for Calstock. Calstock 17 points beat Lewdown 8 points by 4 wickets. In the top of the table clash, Gunnislake won the toss and asked Lewdown to bat. Worth, with successive home centuries, supported by Mark Martin 60, added 149 for the 4th wicket. Martin Squire, James Hawken, Mark Gibbs and Rich Hayden all put bat to ball in the final overs of the innings, allowing Lewdown to amass 257 from their 40 overs. Andy Vernon again came to the party with 5 wickets. Lewdown bowled and fielded with good discipline and application, restricting table topping Gunnislake to 206 for the loss of 9 wickets. Lewdown 19 points beat Gunnislake 8 points by 51 runs, inflicting Gunnislake?s first defeat of the season. Lewdown are now close behind. Next fixture away versus Buckland.
