TWO fast runners from Tavistock Athletic Club have competed in two away races. Mike Erith and Kate Rogers ran both the Chelmsford 10k and the Wythenshawe Park 5k.

The weather at Chelmsford in Essex was blustery but the course was fairly flat – ideal for the fast times, which both athletes were to achieve. From a field of more than 300, Mike Erith finished in 77th position, winning his M60 age-category in a superb time of 42 minutes and 9 seconds. Kate Rogers came second in the F50 group, finishing in146th place, in 47.53.

In their second race, at Withenshawe, Manchester, the two runners again saw their training pay dividends. Kate was third lady to the finish, and second in her age group in 23.38, while Mike finished fourth, winning his category in 21.35 and setting a new TAC M60 record for this distance.

Mike and Kate both train with TAC's Coe group, which caters for the club's fastest athletes. There are four other groups, so whether you wish to maintain fitness, get fitter, or just run out with like-minded people, there is a group to suit. They meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6.15pm at Tavistock College. Visit the clubs website for details at http://www.tavistockathletics.com">www.tavistockathletics.com or call 01822 612577.
