THE annual Oke Croak Run set off from Simmons Park, on Sunday. With ages ranging from 18 to 66, this race certainly appeals to a wide group of runners. Spirits were high as they lined up for the start and this would be needed for the ten miles of rough terrain and eighteen hundred feet of ascent ahead. Along the way, the runners were supported by members of the North Dartmoor Search and Rescue team; manning checkpints and providing assistance should it be needed. Proceeds from the race went to the Rescue Team. First home was 38 year old Anthony King from Exeter in 1 hour 18 minutes. A comfortable win as his nearest rival, 2nd placed Adam Stobbs, was 3 minutes behind. Kevin Hagley was 3rd in 1 hour 22 minutes. Christopher Thomas was the first veteran male to cross the finish line in a very respectable 1 hour 38 minutes. Local girl Ruth Tyler was the first lady back in a personal best of 1 hour 42 minutes, closely followed by the first veteran lady Jenny Mills in 1 hour 43 minutes. Organiser Paul Bartlett said that all the runners completed the course and the atmosphere at the finish was very friendly and sociable He thanked Colin Beer and the Okehampton Football Club for their help and the use of their clubhouse. Without their support the race could not be held The trophies were donated by Brian Cole of Tower Trophies.
