THE inaugural Tavy 13 half marathon is due to take place this Sunday, staged by Tavistock Athletic Club.
This is a very special event in the club's calendar and promises to be a memorable day for the 600 runners taking part in the race.
The race committee hopes that local people will support the event by cheering the runners on as they complete the course, however there will be some impact upon local traffic during the race.
The main impact will be the closure of Crowndale Road between 9.30am and 1pm. This is to allow runners safely to begin and complete the race at Tavistock College.
The recycling facility will be closed.
Runners will head along Plymouth Road and through Duke Street, Brook Street and Parkwood Road — these roads will remain open to traffic , however, traffic will be suspended along this stretch of the route to allow groups of runners to safely proceed.
Drivers are also requested to exercise extreme caution in the area of Old Exeter Road and Crease Lane as this stretch of the race will remain open to traffic for the duration of the race.
One further road closure will take place between Mill Hill and Chip Shop — with the closure times being 10am to noon.
The timetable below gives further details on the route and estimated timings
The leading runners are expected to reach the finish at Tavistock College by approximately 11.10am — the last runners are expected to complete the course by about 1pm.
A spokesman for Tavistock Athletic Club said: 'A big thank you to all in advance for their patience and understanding — the club will do its very best to miminise disruption to residents and traffic throughout the race.'
