A TAVISTOCK College student has beaten off stiff competition from throughout the region to secure a place in the South West of England U16 rugby squad. Richard Goldsby-West, 15, was picked for the 24-strong squad after a selection weekend held at Clevedon. Success in the trials means Richard, who plays rugby for the college, the county U16 side and for Devonport Services RFC, is just two steps away from England U16 selection. Early next year Richard will attend divisional matches at Castle Croft, near Wolverhampton. From these matches the England selectors will pick a shortlist of players, before a final selection stage a fortnight later. Richard, who lives at Crapstone, plays hooker.
