NOT many people can claim to have received two birthday telegrams from the Queen. But Muriel Ellicott now has a second royal card to put on the mantlepiece after celebrating her 105th birthday last Wednesday (October 15).
Muriel was the centre of attention at the Chollacott Nursing Home, Tavistock, where she has been a resident since 1998 — her centenary year.
Born in Plymouth, Muriel spent part of her childhood in the Caribbean before moving to Rio de Janeiro where she married Walter Shales Ellicott on Boxing Day of 1930. They later came to England, settling in Kent where Muriel was an active member of the community.
