STUDENTS and staff at Tavistock College enjoyed a day of physical activity and fundraising for Sport Relief last week.
The initial tally shows the college rowed, cycled and ran its way to raise more than £1,500, with money still coming in.
Tristan Forster, head of PE, said: 'Every student with a PE lesson ran or walked one, three or six miles. At break and lunchtime the fitness suite was open to all year groups for a sponsored row, cycle or run.
'Thank you to everyone who took part; it was a fantastic achievement to have so many people involved in physical activity and raising money.'
College members paid £1 to wear mufti and purchased official Sport Relief socks from the newly termed Sports Council to boost the total.
Personal development lead teacher Eva Pearson said: 'Students and staff at the college are generous with their time, support and money and have raised over £65,000 in the last four years for local, national and international causes.'
Staff also got in the spirit and organised a fancy dress relay after school.
The surf academy staff dressed in wetsuits and carried an ironing board as their baton, while the scientists donned sports gear and took in it turns to wear a large table tennis bat costume.
The surfers emerged victorious followed by the PE Department, with the Science Department bringing up the rear.
Personal Development administrator Ruth Holmes said: 'The day was a huge success and everyone was willing to contribute. The sixth formers put in money even though they don't have to wear uniform. The whole college got stuck in and rallied round.'
