Westinsure Devon Premier Cup second round
Okehampton Argyle 0
Shamwickshire Rovers 3
THE kick-off was delayed by 25 minutes because of the visitors? late arrival, but the extra warm-up time Argyle put in was maybe not to their advantage.
With their two central defenders, Vernon and Soby, missing through other commitments, Argyle faced a difficult afternoon.
Okehampton?s keeper, Daniel Malcolm, was called upon to cut out several dangerous crosses during the early minutes, but could do nothing to stop a powerful header from Andy Waddell entering the net from a right-wing free kick.
Until half time, the match developed into an end-to-end battle. For Argyle Stuart Cann, Steve Williams and the hard working Daniel Johnston all had half chances dealt with by the competent Shamwickshire keeper Nick Spry.
At the other end, Argyle?s back four were kept busy dealing with Shamwickshire?s strikers David Downing and Waddell.
Playing down the slope in the second half, Argyle started to get on top, with Adam Mortimer heading just wide from a corner and other good moves just failing with that final pass.
In the 75th minute Shamwickshire delivered the killer blow when awarded a free kick 25 yards out for handball. Up stepped Waddell to blast a shot into the top corner of the net, giving Malcolm no chance.
Despite a final flurry from Argyle, Waddell completed his hat-trick with a breakaway goal four minutes from time, securing Shamwickshire a home tie against Heavitree United in the next round.
Okehampton travel to Topsham this Saturday to play Exeter University.
