ALMOST £2,000 was raised by Tavistock Rotary Club when it brought Father Christmas to town during its festive street collections. Club president Russell Woolcock thanked the people of Tavistock for their generosity and said the club was proud of its record of supporting local causes. He said: ?During last year we have contributed to HeartSWell and the Children?s Hospice South West and donations have been given to Taviskate and the Toy Library at Tavistock Primary School. Some of the money will fund our popular dinner for senior citizens later this year. ?The people of Tavistock have been amazingly generous not only for our local fundraising efforts but the £13,600 raised last year after Boxing Day enabled us to send 24 shelterboxes and seven aquaboxes into the tsunami disaster area.? A further 13 shelterboxes have been sent to help survivors of the recent earthquake in Pakistan from the £6,476 collected so far. Each shelterbox contains a ten-person tent with sleeping bags, cooking utensils and water filtration equipment sufficient for ten people for up to three months. Help is still needed in this disaster area since many people are still without shelter. Anyone wishing to contribute can leave their donations at the Mayflower Galleries in West Street.
