YELVERTON Rotary Club has raised a record £1,846 for local charities with its Christmas collection around West Devon villages.
The impressive total was collected by Santa Claus, who was towed around Princetown, Walkhampton, Dousland, Horrabridge, Bere Alston, Buckland Monachorum, Crapstone and Yelverton by his tireless reindeer.
The club would like to thank the residents for their generosity, as well as Tesco and Safeway for making several collection days available.
In December, more than 100 pensioners enjoyed their annual Christmas party at Yelverton Memorial Hall, organised by the Rotary Club.
Over the past three months, the club has received more than £1,000 in support of two women who will embark on expeditions to Katmandu and Kilimanjaro in aid of St Luke?s Hospice, Chicks, High Moorland WI Pensioners? Party and Plymouth Hospital Radio.
And the club has earmarked £1,600 to go towards new nets at Yelverton Bohemians Cricket Club, a replacement tent for Walkham Valley scouts, two local candidates for RYLA week and the Horrabridge Park project.
Th next major fund raising event will be a joint presidents evening with Roborough Rotary on May 16.
