CALLINGTON Rotary Club members were in fine voice at Louis' Tearooms recently to pay respects and homage to 'The Immortal Memory of Admiral Lord Nelson and all who fell with him at the battle of Trafalgar' in 1805.
The ladies and gentlemen were in their best attire with men in dinner jackets or mess kit with military miniature medals and Rotary medals proudly displayed.
The venue was suitably decked out with naval bunting and a feast was served to the 47 guests.
The principal speaker was Major Henry Llewelyn, usher of the Welsh Guards, who recently returned from his sixth tour of Afghanistan and was also recently presented with the Bronze Star by the USA — the fourth highest award that the US can bestow and seldom awarded to non-Americans.
On completion of the Loyal toast and the speeches, the fun started with a skit from Rotarians David Buchanan and Mike Gill followed by soliloquy by Eric Eden.
The evening was rounded off by the lusty singing of sea shanties, accompanied by Maureen Harvey on the piano accordion.
