AN appeal for unwanted books and bric-a-brac was this week issued by Tavistock Rotary Club, which is organising a charity stall at this year?s Goose Fair. The money raised will be donated to various local causes supported by the club. Frank Lawrence, who is in charge of fundraising at the club, said: ?People have always been generous with their donations for this event, and last year we raised over £300, which went towards supporting a number of local causes.? Mr Lawrence said the newly opened Tavistock Youth Café, Whitchurch Village Hall and Bishopsmead play park all benefited from last year?s book and bric-a-brac stall. ?We shall also be bringing the geese to Goosey Fair by repeating our very popular guess the weight of the bird competition, held on the lawn outside Abbey Surgery. The prize is an oven ready goose, or the equivalent sum in cash at Christmas.? Anyone with books or saleable items, other than electrical goods, should call 01822 614080 to arrange a suitable collection time.
