THE Rotary Club of Okehampton hosted another charity golf day at Ashbury Golf Club. The day attracted a record number of teams playing a four ball Stableford event and raised more than £5,500 ? which will be used in helping local sports organisations, young people, and other needs. Although the weather started badly the sun eventually came out and those who were lucky enough to start later played in the dry. This was reflected in the scoring, as apart from the South West Highways team, the other winners all started later in the day. Rotary president Kay Bickley presented the prizes. She said: ?To everyone who played and supported us, I would like to say a massive thank you. Your donation is going to help make a difference locally. Kay thanked Mr and Mrs Simon Essex who again gave their course and facilities to Rotary for the day and the greenkeepers who, against the worst of weather, managed to get the course in wonderful condition. Each hole attracted sponsorship from local businesses including Lloyds TSB, Nat West, Bob Gee Commercial Insurance, Stevens Estate Agents, Ink Print, Telecare Electrics, Thomas Westcott, Okehampton Glass, RWH, Stones Solicitors, Robert Humphrey Accountants and Okehampton Post Office. The winners were Ashbury Greenkeepers, second were South West Highways, third were One Arm Bandits.
