CINEMA is returning to Bere Alston for the first time in almost half a century.

Box office films will go on show in the parish hall at Bere Alston — regular cinema performances used to be held in the hall until the 1950s, and there was even a cinema club. The venue was then changed to the old chapel, now demolished, in Fore Street, until the 1960s when the growth of TV killed demand.

An open day, following the completion of a £500,000 rebuild and the taking over of the running of the parish hall by the Bere Alston Regeneration Project, revealed requests by parishioners was for the return of the big screen to the community.

Tomorrow (Friday) there will be two films for all age groups.

The first will be 'Toy Story 3' for the young age group, starting at 4.30pm — doors open from 4pm Tickets will cost £2 per child, plus one parent free.

A free goody bag is provided.

For the more mature audience, there will be a showing of 'Made in Dagenham', beginning at 7.30pm, doors open 7pm.

Tickets are £4 each — purchased in advance, £3.50.
