PLAYED in glorious sunshine and on a course in superb condition the Roland Bailey Trophy competition attracted a large field of Tavistock golfers.  Scoring was close but the winners were Keith and Marion Stenhouse with 42 pts on countback from Shaun and Janet Kiely.  

In the mens four ball better ball open Chris Gawman and Matt Boon (Tavistock) had an excellent 46 pts with Peter Bradbury and Tony Lock (Yelverton) second with 42pts on countback from Alan Gawman and Nick Coe (Tavistock). 

In the Kiely Cup (a combined Stableford competition) Tim Colby and Phil Eastman were the winners with 71pts on countback from Martin Channon and Derek Bettany. With 68pts were Peter Anglis and Dave Treble; Dick Stead and Paul Congo; Barry Milligan and Steve Fowler; Mike Sweeney and Pete Stankevitch as well as David Johns and Mark Russell.    

In the ladies Challenge Bowl, a 36 hole competition played over two consecutive days, the winner was Ann Court with a nett 137, runner up was Shirley Trevena with nett 139.  The winner of the Pat Turnbull Trophy for the best gross score was Nicky Gawman with a gross 172. 

The monthly Stableford was played in conjunction with the qualifying round for the Warren Crocus. Dawn Phillott topped the silver division with 33pts, second was Liz Lyndon 31 pts.  In the bronze division Carolyn Crawford had 37pts with Ann Court on 27 pts. For players who entered the Warren Crocus qualifier the top two players in each division will represent Tavistock in the final at Exeter in September.  

The Elaine Cooper Trophy, for players of 19 handicap and under, was won by Dawn Philott with a nett 70 and runner-up was Jayne Wright with nett 75. 

In the EWGA Medal, played with the Trophy competition, first was Dawn Phillott nett 70, second Ann Williams nett 74 on countback from Pat Taylor.

The Simon Gilder Trophy for juniors was won by Mike Henderson with nett 70, runner up was Will Notley with nett 71 on countback from Sam Jessop.
