Devon Cricket League E division Yelverton 1st XI v Whitchurch 1st XI Yelverton came away from Whitchurch with a maximum 20 points following an emphatic 84 run victory. Yelverton skipper Rob Guy lost the toss again and was asked to bat on a damp wicket. Openers Farnham (28) and Degg (26) put on 35 for the first wicket before Degg mistimed a pull and was caught at square leg. Sixteen year old Rob Bennett (35) came into bat and looked in great form hitting two sixes and took the score up to 67 before Farnham was adjudged to be lbw.  Ian Loze (24) joined Bennett and the pair took the score up to 110 before Bennett was well caught by the keeper standing up.   Whitchurch fought back well through the bowling of Neal (6-67) and Churchill (2-39) and 3 quick wickets fell to leave Yelverton in trouble at 158-6.  Skipper Rob Guy promoted fast bowler James Harrison up the order and he proceeded to thrash the Whitchurch attack around the ground hitting five enormous sixes in a quick-fire 59.  Harrison was well supported by Adam Nicholas (34) as the pair put on 66 runs for the seventh wicket and Yelverton finished on 247-8. In reply Whitchurch started badly with Harrison returning with the ball to bowl Oliver and Hall with only four overs gone.  Worse was to follow when Shrivastav brilliantly ran out the Whitchurch skipper Credicott with a direct hit from the third man boundary to leave the home side at 38-3.   Smith (34) and 24 wides helped Whitchurch keep up with the run rate but they continued to lose wickets with Shrivastav (2-51), Harrison (3-43), Guy (2-51) and Bennett (3-9) sharing the wickets as the innings closed on 163. The victory means that Yelverton remain top of the table.  l This week they entertain Honiton. Devon Cricket League second XI League C division Yelverton second XI v Whitchurch second XI YELVERTON had to be satisfied with a winning draw against bottom side Whitchurch at Langton Park on Saturday.  In first Yelverton's openers, Kevin Beare and Pete Garland looked comfortable against the new ball with Garland in particular hitting some crisp dives off the front foot before edging behind for 16 with the score on 35.  Ricky McDowell joined skipper Beare but fell for four when he mistimed a drive to mid-off.  Beare was then joined by Dan Vince and the pair took the score along to 71 before Beare (20) holed out to the first ball of J Heatley's spell.  Joel Avery joined Vince in the middle and took the score to 99 before Vince was bowled.  The next batsman in was Dave Scott who fell for a duck and he was soon joined in the pavilion by vice captain Chris Pearson, with the same score, who was adjudged lbw.  With the score on 105-7 and barely half the overs gone, some repair work was required and Avery and new batsman Jerry Warland took the score to 131 before Jerry went lbw. Ben Vince came and went for a quick 10 and Avery departed for a well played 47 leaving the score on 153-9. Thanks to the heroics of Adrian Hood (28 no) and Tony Carter (8) for the last wicket Yelverton's innings closed on 191 in the last over of the 46 when Carter was caught behind. After tea Yelverton went into the field in confident mood.  Early inroads were made into the Whitchurch top order as Hood (1-26) and evergreen Carter (2-27) got into their respective strides with a wicket apiece.  Despite this loss Whitchurch's Heatley and Macrae steadied the innings with a partnership of 60 for the third wicket.  The breakthrough was eventually made by Dan Vince (1-32) with the score on 85 when he bowled Macrae.  The introduction of spin made inroads into the Whitchurch order as Ben Vince (2-51) and veteran Jerry Warland (2-18) twirled away with Carter taking two catches.  Heatley was dismissed for a well struck 74 with the score on 148 upon which Whitchurch took the safety first route with skipper Tamblin marshalling the tail.  Carter returned to take the wicket of Tamblin in the last over as Whitchurch closed on 172-8.  Yelverton (14pts) winning draw against Whitchurch (10pts). l This week Yelverton travel to East Devon to take on mid table Ottery St Mary.
