TAVISTOCK Bowling Club began the week with a weekend of club championship competitions, which saw a new men?s champion emerge when Rob Bowhay beat Norman Paramor 21-8 in the final.

Clive Jago achieved victory in the individual men?s handicap competition when he turned a one shot handicap advantage into a 27-16 victory over Mike Allen.

The men?s Kerswill Cup match saw Roy Northam beat John Timmins 22-13 and John lost again in the over 65s Muzzlewhite Trophy final when beaten 21-19 by Clifford Hicks.

Mike Allen got his revenge on Rob Bowhay in the men?s two wood competition, when winning 21-16. The Brian Parker trophy, which is a best of three sets competition open to all club members, was won by Marion Allen when she beat Clive Jago in two straight sets.

The mixed pairs final saw Joan Northey and Mike Allen beat Brian Davis and Marion Allen 24-19, and in the ladies? competitions Marion Allen overcame Betty Browse 21-15, to become ladies? champion.

Marion then faced Freda Isaac in the ladies? handicap final, which Marion won 17-9. Marion completed a hat trick of competition wins when she overcame Hazel Lovell 17-9 to win the ?two wood? competition, and Ann Brown won the Jackie Fenner trophy 21-18 against Valerie Southern.

The ladies? pairs competition was won by Marlene Paramor and Hazel Lovell when they overcame Yvonne Meneer and Pat Hoar to win 28-16,

Tuesday?s mixed triples match at home to Yelverton ended in a 128-83 victory for the Tavistock team when they won four of the six rinks played.

Skip Colin Tremaine and his team of Jill Lacayo and Brian Preece won 27-10, with the help of an eight bowl ?hot shot? on the 12th end.

Skip Sandy Sanders, ably assisted by Wallace Northey and Dorice Hicks, won 22-14 after picking up seven shots on the last end, and skip Ron Cooper and his crew of Bill Ashe and Shirley Blackburn won 18-12 thanks to two five-shot winning ends.

Skip Mike Allen and his team of Clifford Hicks and Ann Brown won 33-5, but skips Marion Allen (13-18) and Jenny Tremaine (15-24) both led losing teams.

Thursday?s home match against Bere Alston saw Tavistock lose 98-112. Skip Malcolm Bloomer led his team of Gordon Northey, David Perry and Ray Meneer, to a 23-18 win and skip Roy Northam saw his team of Brian Preece, Wendy Bloomer and Freda Isaac win 19-14. Skip George Blackburn led his team of Gill Saunders, Albert Townsend and Shirley Blackburn to a 15-14 victory, but skips Mike Allen (16-28), Der Saunders (13-19), and John Smith (12-19) all lost.

Saturday saw Tavistock at home to Totnes for a mixed match which resulted in a 143-92 win for Tavistock after they won five of the six rinks played.

Skip Rob Bowhay led his team of John Smith, Ray Meneer and Dorice Hicks to a 25-18 win while skip Jill Lacayo and her squad of Tony Coombs, Shirley Thorington and Ray Moore won 26-15.

Skip Yvonne Meneer and her team of Norman Paramor, Shirley Blackburn and Clifford Hicks won 26-12. Skip Colin Tremaine and his squad of Brian Preece, Walter Meek and Jenny Aldridge won 28-12, while Jean Flay, Tom Sharp and Gordon Northey were led to 22-13 victory by Ron Cooper.

Skip Roy Northam and his team lost 16-21.

The ladies? section played two matches during the week and won them both. Wednesday?s game against Lee Moor concluded with a 41-39 winning scorel-line thanks to skip Yvonne Meneer?s rink, which won 23-17 and compensated for the 18-22 loss on skip Jill Lacayo?s rink.

Friday?s three rink fixture against Ivybridge went Tavistock?s way after skips Betty Browse, Marion Allen and Yvonne Meneer, all led winning rinks.
