TAVISTOCK firefighters were called to a house in the Boughthayes area of the town on Sunday, after neighbours reported a smoke alarm sounding from the empty property. Firecrews had to force entry to the house, where they found two chickens on fire inside the oven in the kitchen. Fire chief Tim Smith said: ?They were well alight and had filled the place with smoke. The neighbours quite rightly alerted us ? if they hadn?t have done so, there could have been a serious fire.? Mr Smith warned householders to remember to come back to their property if they have timed their oven to come on while out of the house.
