Carlsberg South Western League Torpoint 1 Tavistock 5 THE Lambs got off to the perfect start of the new season in what turned out, eventually, to be a comfortable victory. The Lambs were the first to show with Chris Menhinnick and Glynn Hobbs going close but Andy Meeds had to tip over a fierce drive from Chris Graddon on 15 minutes and from the resultant corner Mark Southeran headed just over. Menhennick went close again before the home side went ahead after 25 minutes. The Lambs? defence could not clear a through high ball with Will Westlake conceding a free kick just outside the area and Paul Partridge drilled a low shot past the ?wall? and Meeds. Will Stringer then put the ball over his crossbar to prevent Torpoint going further ahead and Westlake hit the side netting after John Morris saw his effort blocked. It was 10 minutes before the interval when the Lambs came back to draw level with a well constructed goal. Lee Ireland?s flick over the back four saw Morris?s well timed run into space behind the defence to coolly lob Richard Keith in the home side goal. The Lambs came roaring in the second half and almost went further ahead in the first minute. Mark Conday looked to have been fouled in the area with the ball falling to Menhennick whose shot was palmed away for a corner. Conday spurned a great chance five minutes later when he was put through to turn inside but shot over followed by Hobbs chest and volley went straight into the arms of Keith. But cometh the hour cometh the men. Shane Krac sent James Steer down the wing and with clever ball skill put in a cross and this time Conday made no mistake with a diving header to bullet the ball into the net for the Lambs? second. Two minutes later Ireland came to the Lambs? rescue to prevent the lively Mike Southgate from scoring with a well timed interception in the area followed by Partridge?s second free kick going over the bar. As the game went into the final 20 minutes the Lambs piled on the pressure with Hobbs wasting a couple of chances before he found the target on 72 minutes when he shrugged off the challenge of Ryan Lucassi to shoot low. Keith Westlake?s run and pass in the area to Menhennick saw the latter fouled for the Lambs to go further ahead from the spot but Morris put his kick over the bar. Further pressure from Ireland put Hobbs in but Keith puled off a great save before the Lambs threw on all three subs with 5 minutes remaining. John Hadjiyianni fired a shot at Keith and seconds later Conday got down the wing to cross for Lee Fox in the unaccustomed position up front to chest the ball down and volley home. The Lambs were still not finished as Fox became provider to set up James Cole to rifle home the Lambs? fifth and final goal to put the icing on the cake of a fine victory.
