MAJOR roadworks are due to start on the A386 between Lake and Sourton next week. The £300,000 work programme, including resurfacing, is due to begin on Monday February 21 and is likely to take three weeks to complete. Contractors will be forced to close the road between the A30 at Sourton and the Highwayman Inn for seven days during the work programme. The closures will take place overnight between 7.45pm and 7am ? the dates of closure will be advertised in advance at the site. A spokesman for Devon County Council said night working was necessary for safety reasons ? noise will be kept to a minimum. During the closure, light traffic will be directed through Bridestowe and Shortacombe, while heavy traffic will travel via Lewtrenchard and Chillaton to Tavistock. Contractors Hanson Quarry Products Europe Ltd are due to complete the work by March 19.
