AN important roadshow braved the high winds last week as part of a cancer charity's drive to highlight the support services they offer. The roadshow was to help raise awareness in Okehampton and the surrounding areas of the work the FORCE cancer charity does. FORCE is a self-funded cancer charity, based in Exeter, that works to improve care available for cancer patients. The roadshow was based in Waitrose car park from 10.30am to 3.30pm on Tuesday February 26. Fundraisers, Susie Fishwick and Mervyn Hayes were on hand to help deliver information on the support services FORCE offers, as well as oncology support nurse Robert Oliver. A large number of people, many of whom are or were relatives of cancer sufferers, visited the roadshow, with many thanking the staff from FORCE for the work they do. Susie Fishwick said: 'More than fifty people came by, many of them cancer sufferers. There were a few people who had not heard of FORCE but were pleased that we were there. 'A lot of people came by who wanted to thank us and throughout the day Waitrose were superb.' Julia Morley, marketing and customer services assistant manager at Waitrose, said: 'Since the arrival of our new branch manager, Damien Heard, Waitrose is working hard to strengthen our relationships and links with charities within our local community.' FORCE is a charity that helps people through difficult periods in their lives by delivering comprehensive support. Their information and support centre is based at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
