SIGHT loss, visual impairment and the services available to those affected will be the focus of a special event in Tavistock next month.
Devon in Sight, a visual impairment charity based in Topsham, will be staging the second of a series of countywide road shows next month when it visits Tavistock Town Hall, giving residents information and support for people who are partially sighted.
Taking place on Friday, November 2, staff and volunteers from Devon in Sight will be on hand to speak to residents about what support, advice and equipment is available for blind or partially sighted individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
The event will bring together charities, including Action for Blind and Guide Dogs for the Blind, large suppliers of visual aids, featuring among others Optelic and Optima, as well as local community groups.
Devon in Sight vice patron and Dad's Army star Bill Pertwee will also be at the event, while atmosphere and refreshments will be provided by 'More Tea Vicar?' to the soundtrack of a vintage gramophone!
There will also be Optelec highlighting the latest in low vision aids, and the opticians Vision Express putting into focus the many services available to people in the area.
Martin Pallett, director of services at Devon in Sight, said: 'We're dedicated to improving the quality of life for visually impaired people living around Devon and our Tavistock road show is a vital part of the support we are able to offer people.
'The road show will provide information and advice and also give residents an opportunity to trial specialist equipment designed to enable blind or partially sighted people to lead more independent lives. The day will be hosted by informative friendly staff and volunteers all keen to share the services they can offer to visually impaired people.'
The roadshow will be open from 10am to 2pm. For more information contact Ben Gavan on 07943 514397, or email [email protected]">[email protected]
