THE season started well for Tavistock Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club with wins over local rivals Bere Alston and Yelverton.
Bank holiday Monday's mixed match at home to Bere Alston resulted in a 131-85 win for Tavistock.
This was followed on Tuesday by a men's league match win against Yelverton by 97-54 points.
The ladies' team fared less well on Wednesday, losing 18-23 at Plymouth Civil Service Club.
Thursday saw the visit of Boupham Park, a strong touring team from Lincoln, which fielded several ex-national champions. Boupham won the match 141-87, the only Tavistock winning rink being skipped by Roger Bawden.
Friday saw mixed fortunes for the club, with the ladies losing at Plympton by 25-33 points and the men winning a hard fought battle at City Bus by 78-69 points with the help of an 8-point winning margin on club captain Mike Allen's rink.
Saturday saw the men's team lose 85-102 at Plymouth Sir Francis Drake, despite winning three of the five rinks played.
This Sunday is the club public open day — members of the public are invited to come along between 10am and 4pm to try the game with the assistance of members.
