Duchy league division 2 St Anne?s Chapel 2 Lamerton 2 THESE two local rivals contested a four-goal thriller, which ended with honours even. For Lamerton Steve Gibbings had a couple of good chances and Will Cann hit a left foot curler from 25 yards, which agonisingly missed the top corner. The deadlock was broken when Lamerton failed miserably to clear from a needlessly conceded corner. The ball dropped a few yards from the goal line to the feet of Dan Berenennah, who fired through a ruck of players. The visitors equalised five minutes before the break when a Panda Williams through ball was chased down by determined striker Pete Broomfield. His strength enabled him to lob the keeper and win the race for the line to hit home. A confident Lamerton side were again put behind when early in the second half more slackness at the back resulted in a weak headed clearance falling to Martyn Sampson, who curled it home from the edge of the area. From then on Lamerton began to dominate with Dan Healy taking charge in midfield, Paul Breyley pushing forward from the back and Zac Beesley lively on the left. The home side were under more and more pressure and could not quite hold on. The final goal come when leading scorer Paul Cowling beat his man and was brought down in the box. The Lamerton front man picked himself up to convert the spot kick. The same player almost stole the win in the last minute, narrowly shooting wide before the ref called a halt to a competitive, and sporting match. This Saturday: away to fellow division 2 side Dobwalls in the Duchy knockout cup Quarter Final (kick off 2pm).
