TWO of the fastest rising stars of the folk scene will be appearing as special guests to round off Wren's Music Nights in Okehampton next weekend.
Tim van Eyken and Benji Kirkpatrick combine vocal work with a stunning instrumental virtuosity. Tim's melodeon and Benji's bouzouki playing are renowned and residents can take the chance to hear them at the Octagon Theatre, Okehampton on October 25.
Tim — who has worked with numerous artists as a musician and producer — has been described by the Times as 'one of Britain's great young hopes', while Benji was hailed by Time Out as a 'fretboard wizard'.
Between them, they have appeared at venues across the world.
Wren hopes the Octagon will give the opportunity for them to really shine, playing a smaller, intimate venue, with the sharper focus of a concert programme.
The Real Ale Bar by the Plymouth Inn opens at 7.30pm, with the concert starting prompt at 8pm.
A full team of Wren musicians have been lined up to round off the Music Nights in style: vocal harmonies, accordion, fiddle, bagpipe and guitar playing from Marilyn Tucker, Paul Wilson, David Faulkner and Rebecka Slater Lyons.
A very special guest will be fiddler Nick Wyke, playing pieces from his new CD of Dartmoor music, soon to be released on Wren's own label.
