HATHERLEIGH Town Crier Ros Chard and her dog, Millie, brought a smile to Exbourne on Saturday when they opened the community market and big breakfast.

Despite rain, business was brisk with many taking the opportunity to start some local Christmas shopping. The kitchen team was kept busy, serving 60 breakfasts. More than £1,000 changed hands during the morning, and thanks were expressed to all who helped and supported the event.

The next event is on Friday, December 18 when Father Christmas will be making his visit to the community shop and café, so people can drop in for a glass of mulled wine, a mince-pie and a little last-minute shopping.
