RESIDENTS of Peter Tavy will still be able to travel to Tavistock on Tuesdays, courtesy of Ring and Ride.

Budget cuts at Devon County Council had resulted in the loss of the Tuesday bus service, leaving one bus a week on Fridays. Local residents were then faced with a mile long walk to Peter Tavy Cross to catch the 86 service.

Resident June Arscott said the walk to the cross was not feasible for many who used the Tuesday service. 'We are elderly and even if we could get there, getting back with shopping would be impossible,' she said.

Mrs Arscott contacted the development officer for the Tavistock and District Local Transport Partnership, Sonia Burgess, who, along with the Ring and Ride service, was able to assist.

'I am thrilled that the partnership was able to help,' said Sonia. 'We have recently secured funding to extend the Ring and Ride service, so we were able to offer a Tuesday service into Tavistock for the people of Mary Tavy and Peter Tavy.'

The service will allow approximately two and a half hours in Tavistock and is available to those who have difficulty using, or who do not have access to, public transport. It can be booked through the TDLTPs co-ordinators, Wendy and Diane, on 01822 618028.
