OKEHAMPTON District Community Transport Group, which runs the area's 'ring and ride' service, has received grants to allow its work to continue. Okehampton United Charity, the EX20 Lottery, and NFU Mutual Insurance have all made recent donations to the charity, which provides a vital service to people in the area without their own transport. Although 'ring and ride' is funded by Devon County Council, West Devon Borough Council, Okehampton Town Council and several parish councils, this does not cover the organisation's costs. Despite the fact that it has only 2.5 paid staff, and much of its work is done by volunteers using their own vehicles. The organisation is currently seeking more people to work as volunteer drivers. Anybody interested in helping out should call their Okehampton office on 01837 55000. This is also the number to call for those interested in using the service as passengers.
