A CHEQUE for £1,600 raised from a cycle ride from Lands End to John O' Groats was accepted by two Tavistock doctors on behalf of Cancer Research.

The money was raised by Katharine Hoare, who undertook the challenge in memory of her mother who died from ovarian cancer last year. She presented it to Dr Peter Rodgers and Dr Mark Cullen, of Abbey Surgery in Tavistock.

Katharine, who works for West Devon Borough Council in Tavistock, said her mother possessed true optimism and a determined strength of character throughout her life and never gave up on anything she believed in.

She said her mother's inherent characteristics saw her through the cycle ride and helped her up the toughest of mountain descents.

She said her next challenge would be to do the Irish end from Mizen Head to Malin Head.
