WELL-KNOWN writer and broadcaster Richard Stilgoe did his bit to boost a Tavistock company?s annual appeal for unwanted spectacles last week, when he donated three pairs of his old glasses.
Batemans Opticians, who have shops in Tavistock and Launceston, are collecting unwanted pairs of spectacles to donate to Vision Aid Overseas. The charity cleans and grades the glasses and dispatches them to third world countries.
Volunteer opticians from the UK run mobile eye clinics in the most needy areas, where the recycled spectacles are put to good use by dramatically improving the lives of thousands every year.
Anyone in the Tavistock area who has a spare pair of glasses they no longer need is urged to drop them into the collecting box at Batemans in West Street.
