THE renowned Exon Singers open their annual summer festival with a performance in Tavistock Parish Church this Sunday evening.
The Singers were originally formed by a group of students to sing services in Exeter Cathedral.
Now one of the country's leading chamber choirs, they have held their annual festival since 1967 and have based the event in Tavistock since 1973.
This year's festival focuses on the music of Orlando Gibbons, one of the leading composers of the English high renaissance. The event promises a rich feast of choral, organ and piano music to be enjoyed throughout the week.
There will be performances at Tavistock Parish Church on Monday July 23, July 26 and the weekend of July 28 and 29, which includes the festival concert on the Saturday and parish Eucharist on the Sunday.
Wednesday July 25 sees the singers return to The Wharf in Tavistock for 'Music for a Midsummer's Evening'.
This performance will include traditional madrigals and folk songs, light arrangements by Benjamin Lamb and Finzi and piano duets played by Jeffrey Makinson and Matthew Owens.
The choir performs choral evensong, followed by the Splendour of the Baroque in Exeter Cathedral on Friday July 27.
Admission to each concert is by ticket available on the door or from The Wharf box office. Festival season tickets are available in advance from The Wharf at £21.00
The full programme is available price £2.00.
