TAVISTOCK struggled in the heat on their first game of the season. Lack of fitness of some players let the side down, while others showed good conditioning from pre-season training sessions.

The Ivybridge pack had the better of the forward exchanges but the Tavistock threes made good use of limited possession, running in four tries.

New threes James Kaminski and James McKinnel showed superb skills at centre and full back and scored a try each, while winger Simon Braithwaite grabbed two for himself after deft footwork for a big winger. Sam Smerdon converted one try.

Number 8 Tom Friend and scrum half Danny Thompson both played well above themselves in their first Colts game.

Colts training is on Thursdays at 7pm. Next game on Saturday, home to Sidmouth.
