A POLICE appeal for information about a motorist responsible for the deaths of seven sheep near Yelverton has been boosted by the offer of a cash reward.
The Dartmoor Livestock Protection Society is offering a ?substantial? reward for information which helps police trace the driver of a car seen chasing sheep last week.
Five animals, belonging to Greenwell Farm, Yelverton, were found dead at the roadside and another two had to be put down after suffering serious injuries.
The unspecified amount being offered by the DLPS for information leading to a conviction was topped up by £250 from three members of the public who were outraged by what they heard.
Tom Anderson, of DLPS, said the public had responded with horror to news of the crime.
?After hearing about it, three people came forward immediately with offers of money to add to the reward,? he said.
?They, like everyone I?ve spoken to, were absolutely horrified and disgusted with the
details of this crime.
?The public don?t understand it, and are shocked that fellow human beings can do this.?
Mr Anderson added that the impacts would have caused obvious damage to the vehicle involved.
He said: ?I recently saw a car which had accidentally hit a sheep, and the front spoiler and panels were completely smashed up. Someone, somewhere must know that car.?
The police are still particularly interested in the whereabouts of a blue Rover 200. Anyone with information should contact Tavistock police station as soon as possible.
